Gigazon Internet Capital Limited

Seven years inside
other people’s staffing operations.

Gigazon is an internet capital company. Since 2019 its work has been staffing technology and automation — advising the firms that place people, in four markets that regulate that placement completely differently. OpenTime is what came out of it.

How it went

A consultancy that
stopped consulting long enough to build.

  1. 2017

    The observation

Two problems that were obviously the same problem: businesses spending months to fill one role, and staffing agencies sitting on databases of tens of thousands of people they had already paid to find and could no longer reach.

  2. 2019

    Gigazon begins advising

The consulting practice formalises around staffing technology and automation — system selection, workflow automation, database reactivation and classification. The work starts putting us inside other firms’ operations rather than outside them.

  3. 2019 – today

    Four markets

The practice extends across the United States, Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom. Four regulatory regimes with almost nothing in common turn out to be the most useful thing about the vantage point.

  4. Five years

    Building OpenTime

Six million dollars and five years of development. Four applications, the agency employment model, the benefits structure, invoicing and compliance — built to completion rather than to a demo.

  5. Today

    Both, deliberately

The advisory practice continues. It is how we stay honest about what is actually happening on a desk, and it is where most of what is in the platform came from in the first place.

What Gigazon does

Two halves of one job.

The advisory practice

Staffing technology and automation

System architecture, workflow automation, database reactivation, placement operations and classification advisory — for staffing firms and for the employers who buy from them. Six practice areas across four markets.

The consulting practice

The platform

OpenTime

Four applications on one platform: a business hires a verified, available person in a single tap; the agency runs its whole operation; the worker gets raises, insurance and paid interviews; the interviewer just turns up. Everyone working through it is employed by a licensed agency.

How the platform works

How we work

Four things we do not bend on.

Build against the strictest market

It is tempting to build for the most permissive jurisdiction and deal with the others later. Later is more expensive than it looks, and the rewrite lands at the worst possible moment.

Finish it before selling it

No minimum viable product, and no pilot that quietly does the hard part by hand. If a payroll depends on it, it should work before anyone is asked to trust it.

Treat workers as the supply, not the inventory

Platforms that churn through people pay for it in quality, and so do their customers. Raises, coverage and paid interviews are retention mechanics as much as they are ethics.

Say the unflattering thing

If we are not live in a market, we say so rather than take the details and go quiet. It costs a lead and saves a reputation.
